Tree Crowning

This is a specialized tree pruning technique that selectively reduces the size of a tree’s crown or canopy. The crown is the upper part of the tree, consisting of branches and leaves. This method is employed for various reasons, such as managing tree height, improving structural integrity, and enhancing overall tree health.

The process of crown reduction involves carefully and strategically removing specific branches to reduce the overall size of the tree’s crown. Professional arborists follow a systematic approach, considering factors like the tree species, age, and the desired outcome. Proper cuts are made to minimize stress on the tree while promoting healthy growth.

Tree crown reduction should be performed by skilled arborists who understand the biology of trees and have the knowledge to make precise cuts. It is crucial to balance achieving the desired size reduction and maintaining the tree’s health and aesthetics.

Crown Lifting, Crown Thinning and Crown Reduction.

Crown Lifting is the removal of the lowest branches, and is an effective method of increasing light levels to areas closer to the tree or to enable access under the crown.

Crown Thinning is the removal of smaller / tertiary branches, usually towards the outer portion of the crown, with the aim of allowing light and wind to pass more freely through the tree’s canopy / crown.

Crown Reduction is the reduction in height and/or spread of the crown (the foliage bearing portions) of a tree, with the aim of reducing mechanical stress on individual branches or the whole tree; making the tree more suited to its immediate environment; or reducing the effects of shading and light loss.
